Washington, D.C. – The FBI today reminds Internet
users who receive appeals to donate money in the aftermath of Tuesday’s earthquake
in Haiti to apply a critical eye and do their due diligence before responding to
those requests. Past tragedies and natural disasters have prompted individuals with
criminal intent to solicit contributions purportedly for a charitable organization
and/or a good cause.
Therefore, before making a donation of any kind, consumers should adhere to certain
guidelines, to include the following:
* Do not respond to any unsolicited (SPAM) incoming emails, including clicking links
contained within those messages.
* Be skeptical of individuals representing themselves as surviving victims or officials
asking for donations via e-mail or social networking sites.
* Verify the legitimacy of nonprofit organizations by utilizing various Internet-based
resources that may assist in confirming the group’s existence and its nonprofit
status rather than following a purported link to the site.
* Be cautious of e-mails that claim to show pictures of the disaster areas in attached
files because the files may contain viruses. Only open attachments from know senders.
* Make contributions directly to known organizations rather than relying on others
to make the donation on your behalf to ensure contributions are received and used
for intended purposes.
* Do not give your personal or financial information to anyone who solicits contributions:
Providing such information may compromise your identity and make you vulnerable
to identity theft.
Anyone who has received an e-mail referencing the above information or anyone who
may have been a victim of this or a similar incident should notify the IC3 via www.ic3.gov.

A young man who appeared to be in his twenties, suddenly started running south to north in the area of Pine Ave., wearing only his birthday suit. The totally nude runner, ran along the beach, approxamately 20 feet in front of the the line of spectators. The crowd seemed to love it, as whoops, hollers and cheers went up from all along the spectator ranks. It is not know weather authorities apprehended or confronted the man, but in all his glory he added to the festivities of the forth of July in Wildwood this year.

It hasn’t gotten nearly the amount of buzz that Vista Service Pack 1 got last year, but the Windows Vista SP2 is now available for download.
Right now, Vista SP2 is an optional download, most easily downloaded by visiting the Microsoft download site and grabbing it manually (it’s a 348MB download, but downloads this morning are going quickly), and if all goes well it will begin being automatically delivered by Windows Update (in a more compact form), likely within a few weeks. (SP2 is also supposed to be available as an optional update via Windows Update, but I’m not seeing it there just yet. Be warned that after downloading, installation can take an hour or more to complete. read this entry »
Cape May County, N.J., introduced new technology on April 24 that enables anyone with a cell phone or computer to provide anonymous information to the sheriff’s office through text messaging. Tipsters can send a message to TIP411that will enable real-time, two-way chat between the tipster and the sheriff’s office. The technology also allows tipsters to attach photos or videos. Tips can also be submitted online at www.cmcsheriff.com. A third-party company removes the phone number from all messages and replaces it with an ID number before the message reaches the sheriff’s office. Cape May County is the first sheriff’s office in New Jersey to use this anonymous two-way texting technology.

On April 15th. 2009, RISING, a security software vendor, released Rising PC Doctor, the professional and free security tool, after more than 3 months of open testing. RISING launches this free security tool in a final version much closer to customer needs and with improved usability.
The security tool Rising PC Doctor provides users auto monitoring of potential malicious threats such as spyware and Trojans, together with a set of expert security tools.
Steven JF He, Director of RISING Antivirus International, explains: “Rising PC Doctor greatly enhances end user’s security protection against malware and cyber threats through features such as automatic malware analysis, immunization of USB storage devices, ability to repair Microsoft Internet Explorer & Windows, Trojan Behavior Detector & Blocker, protection against malicious websites, Internet Explorer protection and Trojan Download blocker.”
The Trojan Behavior Detector & Blocker detects the majority of Trojans and a even greater number of other malware upon startup before they can execute their malicious function.
Trojan Download Blocker technology of Rising PC Doctor ensures that even an infected computer will not download any other viruses and stop the spreading of whole families of Trojans.
Rising PC Doctor automatically scans at boot for potentially unknown malware through the Automatic Malware Analysis. When permitted by the user, possible malware is automatically transferred to Rising’s Automated Malware Analyzer (RsAMA) for detailed analysis. The user is informed about the result of the analysis and can quickly react to new threats for which conventional protection is not yet available. Analysis metadata collected by the community of Rising users (Rising Cloud Security) will be stored in the Rising Security Database (RsSD), providing up-to-date information about cyber security.
Main Functions of Rising PC Doctor:
· Completely Redesigned Vulnerability Scan – it can detect vulnerabilities in Microsoft Windows, its security settings and third party software from many manufacturers. With the easy to use interface, even inexperienced users can handle potential vulnerabilities in the operational system and a lot of other major software applications.
· Strong Ability to Repair Microsoft Internet Explorer & Windows – Rising PC Doctor can fix the Internet Explorer on many computers whose homepage has been changed by malware, which are permanently displaying adware or which are plagued by many other problems. On such computers, Rising PC Doctor can help you to repair the system registry, system settings and the host file.
· Powerful Process and Startup Management – This function gives you better control over drivers, programs loaded at boot, Active X controls and other important software influencing the operation of your computer.
· Advanced Tools for Experienced Users
Rising PC Doctor provides additional tools for experienced computer users such as Disk Cleanup, System Startup Management, Service Management, Network Application Management, LSP Repair, File Shredder, and Special Virus Removal Tools which are designed to eliminate only a limited number of viruses.

In a past article we covered the court rulings regarding Epson printer cartridges. It appears that their are still legal compatible cartridges available for Epson printers at a low price. We recently purchased several so called “PATENTED” cartridges for Epson NX400 printers and they all worked jut beautifuly! The cartridges which we procured from Clickinks.com require the user to place an ink filled tank in a special carrier first, then put the whole unit into the printer. We followed the instructions exactly and they work just fine. The cartridges we purchased were filled with pigmented ink, but Clickinks.com offers several varieties. There are also compines on the internet offering bulk ink, chip resetters and never run dry systems. Epson has become one of the major players in the inkjet printer industry in recent years. The surge in their popularity during the last 4 – 5 years was in part fueled by the availability of less expensive compatible inkjet cartridges. Compatible cartridges were once considered just an annoying hindrance to Epson corporate profits, but grew into a legitimate threat to their supplies monopoly. After over a year and a half of legal wrangling in and out of court, it looks like Epson has dealt a hefty blow to the compatible cartridge industry in the United States.

A new service set for launch Tuesday allows cellphone users to unmask the Caller ID on blocked incoming calls, obtaining the phone number, and in some cases the name and address, of the no-longer-anonymous caller.
The service, called TrapCall, is offered by New Jersey’s TelTech systems, the company behind the controversial SpoofCard Caller ID spoofing service. The new service is likely to be even more controversial — and popular.
“What’s really interesting is that they’ve totally taken the privacy out of Caller ID,” says former hacker Kevin Mitnick, who alpha-tested the service.
TrapCall’s basic unmasking service is free, and includes the option of blacklisting unwanted callers by phone number. It also allows you to listen to your voicemail over the web. It’s currently available to AT&T and T-Mobile subscribers, with support for the other major carriers due within weeks, says TelTech president Meir Cohen.
Logobeta “It’s not meant for spies, it’s not meant for geeks, it’s not meant for any specific target audience,” Cohen says. “Everybody hates getting blocked calls, and in this day and age they want to know who’s calling, and they want the option of taking the call or not.” read this entry »
